In a chilling escalation of state-sponsored threats, Mohammad-Javad Larijani, a senior advisor to the Iranian regime’s Supreme Leader and prominent regime ideologue, publicly declared that the assassination of U.S. President Donald Trump would be “legally justified” under Islamic law.

Speaking at a memorial for Majid Tajan Tajari—a young Iranian AI scientist reportedly killed during Israel’s recent 12-day military campaign—Larijani claimed that over 400 regime-aligned clerics had issued religious decrees endorsing Trump’s assassination. He accused the U.S. of having “founded the tradition of political and scientific assassinations” in Iran and insisted, “You [Americans] kill others in foreign lands and expect not to be killed in return?”

The threat reflects the clerical regime’s desperation to boost morale amid growing disillusionment among its armed forces. Following severe losses during the 12-day war, Tehran’s leadership is now leaning heavily into hostile rhetoric to mask internal disarray, including elite casualties, weakened command structures, and eroded public support.

Larijani’s remarks mark another explicit endorsement of a state-sanctioned attack on a sitting U.S. president, broadening the regime’s justification for extrajudicial killings well beyond the long-standing revenge narrative over the 2020 killing of the IRGC Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani. In recent weeks, Larijani has escalated this rhetoric further, openly warning on Iranian state television that European cities could soon be targeted by drone strikes, even suggesting that President Trump could be assassinated while sunbathing at Mar-a-Lago.

Meanwhile, Iran’s economic priorities underline its militarized trajectory. In a separate interview, Hamid Pourmohammadi, head of the regime’s Planning and Budget Organization, admitted that military reinforcement is now the top budgetary priority. “The first priority of the entire system is strengthening the defense capabilities,” he said, outlining plans for rapid military rebuilding after the recent conflict.

These revelations come as Iran faces an avalanche of internal crises—hyperinflation, mass unemployment, and public unrest. Yet the regime continues to pour resources into military buildup and regional aggression, exposing its intent to rule by force while ignoring the mounting grievances of its people.
