Iran: Protests and Strikes by Job-Seeking Youth, Workers, Farmers, Drivers, and Retirees in Various Cities

Repressive forces open fire on job-seeking youth in Gachsaran and Ahvaz
On Monday, August 31, 2026, various regions of Iran witnessed gatherings, strikes, and protests by different segments of the disgruntled population, including job-seeking youth, workers, farmers, drivers, and retirees.
In Gachsaran, a number of job-seeking youth gathered to protest discrimination in hiring practices at the Lishter refinery. The repressive State Security Force (SSF) opened fire on the youth to disperse them, injuring at least one person. Local residents rose up in support of the protesting youth.
In Ahvaz, the SSF attacked and beat job-seeking youth from the villages of Moran and Amishiyeh-ye Bozorg who were protesting in front of the Dabal Khazaie Sugarcane Agro-Industry Company. When the protesters refused to disperse, the SSF opened fire on them. The protesters, many of whom hold academic degrees and technical certifications, chanted, “Employment is a local right,” protesting the allocation of jobs to regime affiliates.
On the same day, in the Ghizaniyeh area of Ahvaz, day laborers at the No. 6 production unit of the Marun Oil Company gathered to protest the non-payment of three months of salaries and insurance premiums.
In Qazvin, employees of the Aryan Steel Complex, which employs about 1,000 workers, protested against a complete power outage over the past five months, which has halted production and left salaries unpaid.
In Jazmourian County, Baluch women protested the confiscation of agricultural lands belonging to 100 Baluch families and their transfer to the predatory government-affiliated Mahan Company.
Drivers at the Mehran border terminal went on strike to protest fuel quota shortages and distribution disruptions.
Telecommunications retirees in Shiraz, Hamadan, Tehran, Sanandaj, and Isfahan gathered to protest dire living conditions, outstanding demands, and discrimination.
Meanwhile, Social Security retirees in Shush gathered in front of the office of the regime’s parliamentary deputy, chanting slogans to protest high prices and inflation.
