Iran: Coronavirus Fatalities in 339 Cities Exceed 60,400
The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) announced on Tuesday, June 23, 2020, that the Coronavirus death toll in 339 cities across Iran is more than 60,400
The Health Ministry announced the number of victims in the past 24 hours was 121, the highest in the past 74 days.
Hospitals and health centers in most provinces and cities are facing crises and serious shortages.

The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) announced on Tuesday, June 23, 2020, that the Coronavirus death toll in 339 cities across Iran is more than 60,400. The number of victims in Khuzestan is 4,555, Khorasan Razavi 3,435, Isfahan 3,125, Gilan 3,045, Alborz 1,930, West Azerbaijan 1,595, Kermanshah 1,480, Golestan 1,465, Fars 1,165, Zanjan 545, Bushehr 545, Hormozgan 480, and Ilam 395.
The spokesperson for the Health Ministry announced that 121 people had died in the past 24 hours, the highest in 74 days. Following the increase in the number of infected patients, hospitals, and health centers in most provinces and cities are facing crises and serious deficiencies.
In Tehran, according to doctors, the number of patients admitted to Baqiyatallah Hospital last month was three times that of the preceding month. Two hundred ninety patients infected to Coronavirus or suspected of being infected visit the Hospital daily. One hundred fifty patients are in critical condition. In recent weeks, three other hospital wards have been assigned to COVID19 patients due to a large number of infected. More than 200 hospital staff have contracted Coronavirus, and at least three, including a nurse who died on June 10, have lost their lives.
Alireza Zali, head of the National Coronavirus Combat Taskforce (NCCT) in Tehran, told the state-run official news agency, IRNA, yesterday, ” In the past 24 hours, the number of Coronavirus patients admitted to the normal wards of Tehran Province’s hospitals was 255 and the number of patients admitted to the intensive care units was 71.”
In Khuzestan, according to professors at Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences in Ahvaz, the death toll among those testing positive for Coronavirus at the region under the control of the university is 30 per day, but the number of people suspected of being infected with Coronavirus and dying untested or dying at home is much higher, although not counted at all.
In Shushtar, the majority of Sharafat and Khatam al-Anbia hospitals are dedicated to Coronavirus patients, and sometimes up to 85 patients are admitted in one day. Many medical staff, including the only infectious diseases specialist, have contracted Coronavirus. The Health Ministry does not provide the minimum budget necessary for purchasing laboratory equipment at the city’s School of Medical Sciences.
In Mazandaran, according to medical staff from Babol, Coronavirus patients are admitted to four hospitals in the city (Rouhani, Beheshti, Yahya-Nejad, and Amir Kola). In 2018 and 2019, the average monthly death toll in Babol was 225, but in March 2020, the death toll rose to more than 500 due to Coronavirus, and it was even higher in April.
In Golestan, the vice president of the University of Medical Sciences told Hamshahri daily Today, “The admission rate for Coronavirus disease patients is twice as many that discharge. The capacity of the hospitals is limited, and if the rate of infections continue as such, we will be facing challenges next week.” The regime’s prosecutor in Gonbad Kavus was quoted by the same daily, as saying, “Hospitals are getting fully occupied, and the situation is getting more dangerous day after day.”
In Fars, according to Tasnim news agency, the head of the Larestan School of Medical Sciences said yesterday, “The number of hospitalized people is increasing, and all the beds in the Hospital are occupied, and unable to accept more patients. There are 30 positive patients in the intensive care unit.” The same news agency quoted the president of Fasa University of Medical Sciences as saying, “Coronavirus has erupted in Fasa. In one day, 69 people were tested positive… We are not in good condition, and we are worried that our medical staff will not be enough for those in need of special care.”
The president of Jahrom University of Medical Sciences said, “We are facing a significant increase in the number of patients. About 50% of the daily samples have been proved positive, but before that, on average, 13% were positive,” reported the Tasnim news agency yesterday.
In Hormozgan Province, a deputy of regime Parliament from Bandar Abbas was quoted by ISNA news agency, Today, as saying, “We suggest a two-week closure of offices and a full quarantine. One of the difficulties in the Province, which we have faced before, is the shortage of resources and medical equipment.”
In Lorestan, the president of the Borujerdi Hospital told IRNA Today, “40 medical personnel have been infected with the virus. The Hospital is facing a shortage of equipment, personnel, funds, and medicine. Extreme exhaustion of our colleagues and the shortage of service, logistics, and law enforcement personnel have caused difficulties in providing services to the patients.”
In Ardebil, the Deputy Governor said, “According to precise figures, 17 percent of the people in the Provinces have contracted the virus. As such, there is the possibility that Ardebil might again experience another Coronavirus peak,” reported Fars news agency yesterday.
In Ilam, the Governor told Fartak news yesterday, “Today, we have an unprecedented trend of the diseases in the Province. We held an emergency meeting, and I raise the alarm right here.”
In Kurdistan, the president of the Medical Sciences University was quoted by Mehr news agency as saying yesterday, “The trend of Coronavirus infection continues to rise. Just in the past 24 hours, 255 new patients have been identified across the Province.”
In Central Province, the president of the Medical Sciences University reported a three-digit figure for those infected with the virus in one day, according to Hamshari daily Today.
