Ebrahim Raisi’s Cabinet: Sign of the Regime’s Deadlock

The Iranian regime’s parliament approved the cabinet of the new president Ebrahim Raisi on Wednesday. This rapid approval, which happened under orders by the regime’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, again showed the regime’s deadlock.

The regime’s parliament approved 18 ministers proposed by Raisi and only rejected one of them, Hussein Baghgoli, the proposed minister of Education.

Khamenei selected Raisi, notorious for his dark human rights record, as the regime’s new president to further consolidate power in his regime. While all Raisi’s ministers had Khamenei’s approval and the entire qualification process at the regime’s parliament was just a show, the regime’s infightings became evident.

The infighting reached a point that Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf acknowledged and reminded the parliament that the entire vetting process is a show. It is Khamenei who makes the ultimate decision.

When one of the regime’s MPs questioned the quality of a minister, Ghalibaf underlined that Khamenei is “personally responsible for defense, security, and foreign policy matters” according to Articles 110 and 176 of the Constitution. Ghalibaf also reminded that previous governments had appointed key ministers with the approval of Khamenei, adding that, “Mr. Raisi has said that he requested the permission of the Leader for ministers in security-related areas such as the ministry of intelligence and the Leader granted it.”

“The Majlis can give a positive or negative vote, but ministers who are presented at the security level will get approval by the leader,” Mohsen Zanganeh, MP from Torbat Heydarieh, confirmed Ghablibaf’s remarks.

Ebrahim Raisi has claimed he intends to resolve Iran’s economic and social crises, and “The situation requires this administration to start working.”

But, he refused to say how his administration would resolve Iran’s crises.

A glance at some of the ministers of Raisi’s cabinet would show how this administration would be able to resolve crises.

Raisi’s Minister of Interior is the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi, former head of the IRGC’s terrorist Quds Force. The Argentine Judiciary issued an arrest warrant for his direct role in the July 1994 bombing of a Jewish Community Center in Argentina.

Raisi’s Minister of Oil is Javad Owji. He has served as one of the managers “Execution of Khomeini’s Order” and “Mostazafan Foundation,” two financial institutions under Khamenei’s control tasked with plundering people. The Execution of Khomeini’s Order (EIKO) is the same plundering institution tasked with producing vaccines but has only devoured billions of dollars. The lack of vaccination has resulted in over 372,000 deaths due to the novel coronavirus across Iran.

Rostam Ghassemi, appointed as construction minister, was Ahamdinejad’s oil minister. He was involved in Babak Zanjani’s corruption case, one of the largest embezzlement in Iran’s recent history.

Raisi’s Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, has been a key member of the regime’s terrorist apparatus. During the Sunday session of the Majlis vowed to support the “resistance front,” an umbrella term the regime uses to refer to its proxy terrorist groups in the Middle East region. Amir Abdollahian previously vowed to continue the path of “Qassem Soleimani,” the eliminated commander of the Quds Force.

Now with these criminals as his ministers, how would Raisi resolve Iran’s issues?

How could he address the Covid-19 outbreak when Khamenei, who has handpicked him and his cabinet, banned Covid-19 vaccines and forced people to continue their business activities despite the coronavirus outbreak.

In addition, having several managers of EIKO in his cabinet debunks Raisi’s claims of controlling the coronavirus outbreak.

Khamenei handpicked this government and selected Raisi to complete his policy of consolidating his regime by increasing oppression and plunder. Khamenei has chosen this path out of desperation because his regime cannot resolve people’s problems, as it has created them.

In other words, the entire approval process of Raisi’s cabinet, his ministers, and the current situation in Iran underlines the regime’s absolute deadlock.
