On August 24, healthcare workers across Iran continued their nationwide strikes and protests, demanding higher wages, better working conditions, and changes to labor policies.

In Isfahan, central Iran, medical emergency workers organized a strike and protest rally, calling for improved working conditions and salaries. The nurses at Seyyed al-Shohada Hospital in Isfahan also joined the protests, continuing their demonstrations for higher wages and better working environments.

Meanwhile, in Khorramabad, western Iran, nurses took to the streets in solidarity with their colleagues nationwide, chanting slogans like, “Enough with the empty promises, our tables are empty!” These protests echoed throughout the country as nurses in Babol, northern Iran, also rallied, shouting, “Shout for your rights!” and demanding fair pay and better conditions.

In Sabzevar, northeast Iran, health workers from the Medical Sciences University continued their protests, focusing on demands for higher wages, changes to overtime compensation, and improved working conditions. Similarly, in Khomeyni Shahr, central Iran, nurses from 9 Dey Hospital joined the nationwide strikes, protesting against low wages and inadequate working conditions.

Despite increased security pressures, including summonses, arrests, and threats against protesting nurses in recent days, the demonstrations have not waned. The protests, which began on August 2, have spread to 37 cities and over 60 hospitals across the country. As the movement gains momentum, human rights organizations have called for the immediate release of detained nurses and urged influential figures, including artists, athletes, and lawyers, to support their cause.

Additionally, on Thursday, August 22, reports emerged of a tragic incident involving the death of a Baluch citizen who had been injured by gunfire from security forces earlier in the month. On August 6, at a checkpoint in Khash County, southeast Iran, security forces opened fire on a vehicle carrying a family, resulting in the death of a mother and injuries to her two children. The father, who had been critically injured, succumbed to his wounds nearly two weeks later.

This incident has sparked outrage and further highlighted the ongoing human rights abuses faced by ethnic minorities in Iran, particularly in regions such as Sistan and Baluchestan. It underscores the severe measures the Iranian regime employs to suppress dissent and maintain control, adding another layer of tension to the widespread protests and strikes occurring across the country.
