The Iranian regime’s escalating use of arbitrary executions and systemic violence is a chilling attempt to silence dissent. From June 22 to 25, 2025, 17 prisoners, including one woman, were executed. Since the Persian year 1404 began on March 21, 2025, a staggering 424 executions have taken place, with 18 in the past week alone. “Last week, 18 prisoners were executed; a horrifying statistic unprecedented in recent years,” the No to Execution Tuesdays campaign declared in its 75th week. This surge is a deliberate tactic to instill fear and crush resistance. The campaign stands as a powerful response, demanding an end to the death penalty and the release of all political and ideological prisoners.
The Crisis: Executions as a Tool of Control
The regime’s desperation is evident in its rising execution rates. Political prisoners face heightened risks, their sentences weaponized to deter opposition. The campaign’s statement underscores the scale: “Since the beginning of the year 1404 (March 2025), at least 424 people have been hanged.” The regime’s history of neglecting prisoner safety, even during crises, reveals its intent to exact revenge through mass executions, making urgent action critical.
No to Execution Tuesdays: A Movement for Justice
The No to Execution Tuesdays campaign unites activists and families in a bold demand: “We, the members of this campaign, together with the people of Iran, demand the abolition of the death penalty and the release of all political and ideological prisoners.” The campaign calls on families of the detained to break their silence by publicly sharing their loved ones’ names and demanding their release, warning that “silence only emboldens the regime’s oppression.” It also urges the international community to amplify the voices of those on death row.

A New Focal Point: Qarchak Prison
With the closure of Evin Prison and the transfer of prisoners to Greater Tehran and Qarchak, the campaign has shifted its focus: “From now on, Qarchak Prison will replace Evin Prison in the list of prisons participating in the campaign’s strike.” This change underscores the need to sustain pressure on the regime, regardless of where prisoners are held.
Hunger Strikes: A Nationwide Protest
On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, the campaign marks its 75th week of action with hunger strikes across 47 prisons, including Qezel Hesar Prison (Units 3 and 4), Karaj Central Prison, Qarchak Prison, Sheiban Ahvaz Prison, Adelabad Shiraz Prison, and Zahedan Prison (women’s ward). These strikes symbolize the resilience of prisoners and their supporters in the face of relentless oppression.

A Global Call to Action
The campaign appeals to the global community to act, emphasizing that “the authoritarian regime not only failed to ensure the security of prisoners during wartime and bombings but is now, after the crisis has ended, seeking revenge against the people and prisoners.” It calls for:
Amplifying the campaign by sharing stories of Iran’s prisoners.
Pressuring the regime to halt executions and release political prisoners.
Supporting human rights through advocacy and awareness.
Stand for Justice
The fight against Iran’s death penalty is a fight for humanity. The No to Execution Tuesdays campaign is a beacon of hope, uniting voices to demand justice. “The corrupt and repressive government continues its arbitrary executions and systematic crackdown to suppress popular uprisings and protests,” the campaign warns.
