Coronavirus Outbreak in Evin and Greater Tehran Prisons
The clerical regime executed a prisoner in Dezful prison on Thursday, March 3, 2022. The Shush prosecutor said the prisoner had been sentenced to death for the murder of a State Security Force officer.

In addition, a 36-year-old prisoner named Akbar Shahsavand was hanged in Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan on Wednesday, March 2, 2022. On Monday, February 28, 2022, Morad Salehbeyg, 45, was hanged in Zanjan Prison after five years in prison. The regime’s henchmen flogged him 74 times before his execution. Also, on Sunday, February 27, Ali Haidar Dehghani, 40, and Jassem Ghanbari, 30, a Baluch national were hanged in Khorramabad and Jiroft (Kerman) prisons, respectively. The clerical regime has executed 13 prisoners since February 20, 2022, the beginning of the 12th month in the Persian Calendar.

In another development, the COVID-19 outbreak has spread in prisons, including in Evin and the Greater Tehran Penitentiary. But the prison guards are not taking any measures to prevent the spread of the virus or treat the infected. In the Greater Tehran Penitentiary, a number of prisoners have died due to COVID-19, but prison guards prevented the news from becoming public. In Evin, too, while a large number of prisoners in ward eight have been diagnosed with COVID-19, the prison health service has only one doctor, and there are no provisions for essential medicines.

The Iranian Resistance calls on the United Nations and relevant bodies and the European Union and its member states to take urgent action to save the lives of death row prisoners and temporarily release prisoners until the end of the Coronavirus Pandemic.
