Statement of Solidarity with Victims of Coronavirus and Condemnation of Regime’s Secrecy in Iran

21 March 2020

While the world is eager to put an end to the suffering of people with the deadly Coronavirus, and while The director general of the World Health Organization (WHO) has said the sudden increase in cases in countries outside China is “deeply concerning“, the spread of the Coronavirus is now at a catastrophic level in Iran. Iranian authorities have been very secretive about patients infected with Coronavirus and its victims.

Meanwhile, according to reports by the National Council of Resistance of Iran, the Corona virus killed more than 8و200 people and infected tens of thousands by March 20.

While, the UN High Commissioner of Human Rights expressed her deepest concerns on excessive use of force during her addresses to the 43rd session of the HRC, against the people of Iran while shutting down the Internet of the country for more secrecy in Mid-November 2019 uprising.

What has frightened Iranian officials is the people’s deep anger and mistrust of whatever government is saying about this crisis. The world has recently experienced the Iranian regime’s secrecy over the downing of a Ukrainian plane.

In Iran this catastrophe of Coronavirus is occurring on a large scale and nationwide. The Iranian officials continue to insist on secrecy, spreading false information, not taking any preventive measures, not providing adequate medical equipment, no countermeasures, continue to commute to China, accelerated the spread of Coronavirus to various areas of Iran. The regime’s actions caused a rapid increase in the number of victims and transmitted the virus to neighboring countries.

According to citizens, doctors and nurses, in addition to Qom and Tehran, several people have died in Tabriz, Isfahan, Najafabad, Kashan, Kermanshah, Rasht, Khorramabad, Kashan, Kermanshah, Rasht and Khorramabad and hundreds of cities have been killed.

Despite repeated domestic and international calls to halt flights to China, Mahan airline of the IRGC continued flights to and from China.

We urge doctors, physicians, nurses, and hospital staff in Iran to immediately share their information with the public to safeguard the lives and health of the Iranian people and to counteract the regime’s confidentiality and misleading information.

We call on the United Nations, the World Health Organization and international human rights organizations to obligate the Iranian regime to provide all public and international bodies with facts and about Coronavirus spread, to protect the lives and health of the people of Iran and other countries around the world. The real time propagation of information can force the Iranian Government to admit the exact statistics of victims and force the regime to provide medical and treatment facilities that are largely monopolized by the regime’s IRGC and security apparatus, to the Iranian people.

In a series of messages, Ms. Maryam Rajavi also addressed the international community and relevant international organizations:

UN Security Council, the UN Secretary-General, the Human Rights Council and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights must condemn the mullahs’ regime for their continued criminal secrecy over the outbreak of Corona which endangered the lives of the Iranian people and put other countries at risk too.

We call on the World Health Organization to directly monitor the dire medical situation in Iran and report it to the Secretary-General and the United Nations Security Council.

Immediate action by the Secretary-General, the High Commissioner and the United Nations Human Rights Council, as well as the European Union and member states, is essential to save the lives of prisoners in Iran. Global intervention needed more than ever to prevent humanitarian catastrophe in regime prisons

Despite the Iranian government’s criminal secrecy over the people and inmates who are currently infected with the Coronavirus and need treatment, we call on the World Health Organization to visit prisons during its visit without delay too.

We call on the World Health Organization to demand transparency from the Iranian regime in preventing, caring and treating the Iranian people, and to inform the world of any violations. A global human solidarity will bring health back to the international community and the Iranian people.
