A group of prominent former U.S. officials, military leaders, and policymakers has issued a joint statement expressing strong support for the Iranian people’s struggle for freedom and endorsing a democratic alternative to the current regime in Tehran. Drawing on the legacy of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s “Four Freedoms,” the statement argues that Iranians have been systematically denied basic rights since the 1979 revolution, with repression enforced through state institutions such as the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and intelligence services.

The signatories highlight recent events, including mass protests and the killing of thousands of demonstrators, as evidence of the regime’s deepening crisis of legitimacy. They also point to the death of Jina Mahsa Amini as a symbol of systemic brutality.
Central to the statement is support for the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and its President-elect Mrs. Maryam Rajavi’s Ten-Point Plan, which calls for a secular, democratic republic, gender equality, and the rule of law. The initiative is further reinforced by growing backing in the U.S. Congress, including House Resolution 166.
Emphasizing that Iran is at a historic turning point, the signatories urge Western governments to abandon appeasement and actively support the Iranian people’s efforts to establish a free, democratic, and non-nuclear republic.
