Nowruz Celebration in Washington: Support for Iran’s Resistance Against Terrorist Regime

To mark the onset of spring and the Iranian New Year, a gathering was held by the Office of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) in Washington, D.C. Speakers at this event included members of the Iranian Resistance as well as political figures and former US officials supporting the Iranian resistance movement.

Former United States Secretary of Homeland Security, Governor Tom Ridge, attended the program as a distinguished guest, accompanied by his wife, Michelle. He reaffirmed his unwavering support for the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI), advocating for the cause of a free and democratic Iran.

The event attracted representatives from various embassies in Washington, political figures, advisors to US Senators and Congressmen, as well as journalists, all gathered to participate in the event.

Dr. Soufi Saeedi, a member of the NCRI and the host of the meeting, extended a warm welcome to all attendees, expressing heartfelt gratitude for their presence. Emphasizing the importance of the Iranian New Year, Dr. Saeedi conveyed optimism for a brighter future in Iran, envisioning the dawn of a new era marked by freedom and democracy.

Former Deputy Secretary of State, Ambassador Robert Joseph, warned about the imminent threat of the Iranian regime acquiring nuclear weapons within one or two months. He emphasized that such a development would have catastrophic consequences and called for immediate action against the regime.

Ambassador Joseph outlined the policy focus on isolating and destabilizing the regime while supporting the democratic opposition to overthrow the clerical dictatorship. He emphasized the importance of supporting the Resistance and the Ten-Point Plan proposed by NCRI President-elect Mrs. Maryam Rajavi.

In concluding his speech, Ambassador Joseph reiterated the clear choice between an oppressive regime and a democratic vision for Iran’s future. He urged for action, expressing hope for the rebirth of Iran and the end of the regime’s oppressive rule.

Ambassador DeTrani, former Senior Advisor to the Director of National Intelligence expressed his gratitude for being present at the event, reminiscing about his time serving in Iran before the rise of the current regime. He emphasized the need for strong determination at the highest levels in the U.S. to resolve the issue of the Iranian regime’s pursuit of nuclear weapons, asserting that the regime must be replaced. DeTrani praised the efforts of the NCRI and called for continued support for the Iranian people and those bravely resisting oppression within Iran.

Linda Chavez, former Director of the White House Office of Public Liaison, expressed her deep connection to the NCRI, describing the movement as family, emphasizing her three-decade-long involvement in the cause, including advocating for resolutions against the Iranian regime during her time at the United Nations.

Mrs. Chavez thanked the Iranian Resistance for keeping hope alive and expressed her gratitude for being present at the spring celebration, highlighting Nowruz as a symbol of rebirth, echoed in the resistance movement. Stressing the people of Iran’s right to freedom and self-determination, she lauded Mrs. Rajavi as the beacon of hope for this freedom.

Ambassador Lincoln Bloomfield, former US Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs remarked on the growing awareness among many about Iran. Amb. Bloomfield reflected on the sacrifices made by members of the Iranian Resistance, noting their commitment and the immense hardships endured by their families, including separation and unimaginable losses.

Amb. Bloomfield expressed gratitude to the members of the NCRI and the PMOI, as well as to Iranians “who opened their hearts and shared their stories, teaching him the meaning of standing firm on principles and prioritizing principles over personal interests.”

He urged Iranians to continue the journey together in the new year, as the distant shore draws nearer, symbolizing a free Iran.

Colonel Thomas Cantwell, the former US commander in charge of protecting Camp Ashraf in Iraq, extended his Nowruz addressed those he called “his comrades” in the Iranian Resistance, reminiscing about his first encounter with the PMOI over 20 years ago. He praised their character, discipline, and dedication to their cause, expressing pride in knowing some of them who are now in Albania at Ashraf 3.

Reflecting on the attacks on Camp Liberty and Camp Ashraf, Col. Cantwell acknowledged the sacrifices endured, echoing Ambassador Bloomfield’s sentiments. He noted the increased activism in Iran over the past two years, driven by a new generation of Iranians who understand the importance of their freedom. He highlighted the regime’s response to this activism, characterized by violence, torture, and executions, reminiscent of its actions since 1988 and 1983.

Col. Cantwell recalled the museum at the old Ashraf Camp, showcasing the sacrifices made by its members in the pursuit of freedom. He emphasized the enduring legacy of the Iranian Resistance, honoring their history of sacrifice and determination. Col. Cantwell vowed not to forget or let their sacrifices be overshadowed and expressed hope that the new year would bring renewed fervor for freedom among all Iranians.

Soona Samsami, Representative of the NCRI in the United States, reflected on the past year’s resistance despite significant challenges. She highlighted the international support garnered for Maryam Rajavi’s Ten-Point Plan for Iran’s future, as well as the progress made by Resistance Units within Iran.

Ms. Samsami praised the recent widespread boycott of parliamentary elections in Iran as a powerful message against the regime’s tyranny and emphasized the Iranian people’s unwavering rejection of any form of dictatorship. She underscored the regime’s deepening international isolation due to its meddling in the Middle East and support for proxy forces, acknowledging the global attention drawn to the people of Iran’s struggle for freedom and the implications it holds for regional and global dynamics.

A delegation of American university students attending the gathering expressed their support for the Iranian youth’s fight for freedom and a democratic republic in Iran. They commended the role of the NCRI in disseminating truths and amplifying the voices of Iranian youth.
