sentence for 23-year-old student Amir-Hassan Akbari Monfared on charges of Rebellion (Baghi) and Membership in the PMOI
Call for urgent action to save the lives of Amir-Hassan and other political prisoners facing execution
On Sunday, 11 October 2026, a deputy from the Evin torture chamber, accompanied by two individuals—one of whom was a masked representative from the Ministry of Intelligence—notified Amir-Hassan that Branch 41 of the Supreme Court of the regime’s judiciary had upheld his death sentence. Simultaneously, the regime’s judiciary presented Amir-Hassan Akbari Monfared with a pardon request form and a document demanding his repentance and disavowal of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK). The prisoner refused to read these documents and referred the matter to his lawyer.

Amir-Hassan Akbari Monfared, a 23-year-old accounting student at Karaj Azad University, was arrested on 19 January 2025 at his paternal home in Karaj by a group of heavily armed agents wearing bulletproof vests. He was subsequently transferred to the Ward 209 detention center in Evin Prison. This occurred despite Amir-Hassan Akbari Monfared having no involvement in or knowledge of the so-called “Abdar-chi (tea boy)” incident and the elimination of the henchmen Razini and Moghiseh. Nevertheless, he was subjected to five months of torture in Evin’s Ward 241.

Amir-Hassan was initially sentenced to death on 23 July 2026 by the criminal judge Salavati in Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran on charges of “rebellion (baghi) through membership in the PMOI.”

Four members of the Akbari Monfared family—PMOI members Alireza, Gholamreza, Abdolreza, and Roghayeh Akbari Monfared—were executed by the mullahs’ regime in the 1980s. Roghayeh and Abdolreza were among the thousands of victims of the 1988 massacre. Amir-Hassan Akbari Monfared is currently at imminent risk of execution in Evin Prison.

The Iranian Resistance calls for immediate and effective intervention by the United Nations to save the lives of Amir-Hassan Akbari Monfared and other political prisoners sentenced to death.
