Iran: The Nationwide Uprising Spreads to 156 Cities, Over 240 Killed, More Than 12,000 Detained

Students and professors of dozens of Iranian universities go on strike for the release of detainees
According to the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), the number of those killed in the first 11 days of the nationwide uprising has exceeded 240. The number of people arrested in the uprising, which has spread to 156 cities, has surpassed 12,000.

Following the arrest of many students across the country, on Monday, the 11th day of the uprising, many professors and students at Iranian universities went on strike and announced that they would continue to strike until the release of all those arrested.

Some of the universities that are on strike include the Universities of Tehran, Yazd, Gilan, Qazvin, Semnan, Tarbiat Modares, Amir Kabir (Polytechnic), Sharif Technical University, Isfahan Art, Kharazmi, Khajeh Naseer, Hamedan’s Boali Sina, Allameh Tabatabai, Science and Technology, Welfare Sciences, Science and Culture, medical sciences in Tabriz, research sciences in Tehran, Al-Zahra, Faculty of Dentistry, Isfahan University of Technology, Chamran University of Ahvaz, Mohagheg Ardebili University, Najafabad Azad University, and Shandiz University of Mashhad.

Last night, the Tehran University campus was the scene of demonstrations and clashes with the suppressive forces. The students were united and resisted the onslaught of the Revolutionary Guards and plainclothes agents, chanting “death to the dictator.” The students of Tarbiat Moddares University also held a demonstration on the university premises and demanded the release of detained protesters.
