Iran News: Argentina Urges Pakistan and Sri Lanka to Detain Iranian Official Tied to 1994 AMIA Bombing

The Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs has requested Interpol to arrest the Iranian regime’s Minister of Interior for his involvement in the 1994 bombing of the Jewish Community Center in Buenos Aires, which resulted in the deaths of 85 people. The ministry stated in a release that Ahmad Vahidi, the Minister of State, is part of an Iranian delegation currently visiting Pakistan and Sri Lanka, and Interpol has issued a red notice for his arrest upon Argentina’s request. Argentina has also urged these two countries to arrest Vahidi.
On July 17, 2023, the National Interest wrote, “July 18 marks the twenty-eighth anniversary of the AMIA bombing, which killed eighty-five people and injured over 300 in a terrorist attack targeting Argentina and its Jewish community center in Buenos Aires in 1994. As evidence uncovered by Argentinian prosecutor Alberto Nisman, who died under suspicious circumstances, and the Red Notice warrants issued by the INTERPOL in 2007 demonstrate, the Islamic Republic of Iran and its surrogate Hezbollah were responsible for this suicide attack.”

In June 2023, a federal judge in Buenos Aires, Argentina, requested Interpol to detain four Lebanese citizens for their suspected involvement in the 1994 bombing of the AMIA Jewish community center, which claimed 85 lives. Judge Daniel Rafecas cited strong suspicions of their collaboration or operational ties with Hezbollah’s armed wing in a resolution dated June 13.
Argentine prosecutors have previously alleged Iranian officials’ use of Hezbollah for the attack. Designated as a terrorist organization by both the United States and Argentina, Hezbollah’s ties to the tri-border region connecting Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay, known for terrorism financing, underpin the urgency of the detention request.
These alerts expire every five years. The current ones expire on November 7. In this regard, the judge, temporarily presiding over Federal Court 6, decided to extend the arrests for a new period until 2027, according to judicial sources cited by Infobae in May 2022.

This action was taken to apprehend Mohsen Rezaee (IRGC Commander-in-Chief – 1993/1994), Ahmad Vahidi (commander of the IRGC Quds Force 1993/1994), Ali Fallahian (Minister of Intelligence and Security between 1989 and 1997), Ahmadreza Asghari (Third Secretary of the Iranian embassy in Argentina from July 11, 1991, to July 23, 1994), and Mohsen Rabbani, liaison of the Iranian regime’s embassy in Buenos Aires from March 3, 1994, to May 19, 1998).
The Iranian Resistance has played a crucial role in exposing the Iranian regime’s implication in this appalling crime. While Tehran acknowledges this reality, citing third-party sources, it exploits it as a justification to evade accountability and reject cooperation with international law enforcement.
