Iran: Protest Rallies by Workers, Retirees, Nurses, and Teachers in Various Cities across the Country

From Sunday, September 6, to Wednesday, September 9, 2026, various segments of Iranian society—including workers, retirees, nurses, teachers, and drivers—staged protests and strikes in various cities across the country. They were protesting their deplorable living conditions, unpaid wages and benefits, and the predatory policies of the mullahs’ regime.
In a shocking incident on Sunday, September 6, a father of two with 17 years of work experience, employed by the Ahvaz urban railway project, set himself on fire in front of the Ahvaz Central Municipality building to protest his dismissal and five months of unpaid wages. He was subsequently rushed to the hospital.
The strike by employees of the 1st District of the 6th National Gas Pipeline at the Bidboland and Ahvaz stations, which began on Monday, September 7, continued for a third day on Wednesday, September 9.
On Wednesday, September 9, retired railway workers gathered in front of the Department of Roads and Urban Development in Tehran, chanting, ‘While the minister is asleep, the train must sleep,’ and ‘Our tables are empty, the police are not the answer.’ On the same day, Snapp-Box drivers in Semnan went on strike to protest high fuel costs and commission rates.
On Tuesday, September 8, staff members of the Imam Ali Hospital in Kermanshah held a rally to protest a year of unpaid overtime.
On the same day, residents in Arak gathered in front of the Department of Housing and Urban Development to protest the government’s confiscation of their lands. Meanwhile, dismissed workers of the Haft Tappeh Sugarcane Agro-Industrial Company staged a sit-in at the complex’s entrance, demanding reinstatement.
Also on Tuesday, September 8, 300 nurses and medical staff in Kermanshah held a protest rally for the second consecutive day, protesting low salaries, severe understaffing, and payment delays. In Tehran, protesting nurses at Fayyazbakhsh Hospital faced suppressive measures, including contract cancellations and forced transfers. The regime’s judiciary has filed cases against five of these nurses on charges of ‘spreading lies.’
On Monday, September 7, job-seeking youths in Ahvaz, who had been gathering in front of the Dabal Khazaei Sugarcane Agro-Industrial Company since mid-August, were raided by the suppressive State Security Force (SSF). Officers beat them with stun guns and arrested several of them.
On Monday, retired telecommunications employees gathered in the cities of Kermanshah, Isfahan, Hamedan, Ilam, Tabriz, Mashhad, and Sanandaj to protest plundering by major shareholders, including the ‘Execution of Imam Khomeini’s Order’ (EIKO) and the IRGC-affiliated ‘Etemad-e-Mobin Consortium.’
On Sunday, Social Security retirees, educators, and retired telecommunications workers held protest rallies in Tehran, Kermanshah, Dezful, Ahvaz, Shush, Karkheh, Haft Tappeh, and Rasht. Their primary demands included the full payment of unpaid dues, addressing chaotic insurance schemes, and holding employers accountable for their financial commitments to retirees.
On Sunday, September 6, workers of the Pars Oil and Gas Company held protest rallies across 13 sections and offshore platforms in Asaluyeh and Kangan. On the same day, 300 teachers gathered in front of the Planning and Budget Organization in Tehran.
