The epicentere of Iran’s coronavirus crisis is now besieged by floods, with many vehicles swept away and many factories and stores filled with muddy water.

The floods in Qom, central Iran, come just one day after floods hit Khorasan Razavi Province in northeast Iran. The Khorasan Razavi floods have hit all cities in the province, blocking 14 roads to various villages and four main roads between cities, with the majority of damage occurring in the cities of Davarzan, Sabzevar, Javin, and Joghtay.

Two people have died in Rashtkhar and Khaf, while two people are reported missing.

One local said: “Due to strong floods in the village of Zardab Balakhaf, a 31-year old man and a 13-year old child were washed away. There is no sign of them. A 27-year old man being washed away was saved by local villagers and was later sent to a hospital.”

Severe damage is being reported by locals across the province, with those living in villages near Davarzan forced to evacuate.

While in Qazvin Province, northwest Iran, floods destroyed Boin Zahra’s famous Sagesabad bridge. The floods, which began on Saturday, hit villages around Takestan, including Asfarvarin, Dowlatabad, Kahak, Yahya-abad, Ali Khamenei, Saj, Rakan, and Lazjerd.

In the earlier floods, 29 cities across the 16 provinces of Isfahan, Tehran, Alborz, South and North Khorasan, Semnan, Qom, Qazvin, Kerman, Kermanshah, Golestan, Gilan, Lorestan, and Yazd were badly affected.

These floods left four dead, including two children, with the situation made worse by lightning storms, hail, and sleet, which are causing additional damage to orchards and farms. Worse still was the rupturing of a natural gas pipe in Rudak in Buin Zahra County of Khorasan Razavi  Province, due to the heavy rains and rising water levels. This actually led to a major fire.

The fear is that, as we’ve seen in the past, there may well be mudslides in the affected areas, especially near the roads of Chaharmahal & Bakhtiari Province, where heavy rain, snowfall, lightning, and strong winds are predicted. In fact, 28 roads in the province are blocked already.

And this will not stop anytime soon, with floods forecast to hit 20 provinces over the next few days. This will hurt the Iranian people who are already suffering from the coronavirus pandemic and the lack of help provided by the Iranian regime’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and President Hassan Rouhani, who want to kickstart the country’s economy, something that will only lead to more deaths.
