The Regime’s Judiciary: “They were armed, attacked the Ministry of Intelligence, and supported the PMOI with the goal of overthrowing the system.”
Maryam Rajavi: “This reflects the regime’s fear of the people and their embrace of the Resistance Units. This bloodshed will forever roll up the disgraceful scroll of the regime.”
Early this morning (Tuesday, March 31), heroic PMOI members Babak Alipour and Pouya Ghobadi were executed by the ruling religious fascism in Iran and achieved eternal life in Ghezel Hesar Prison. Babak, 34, a lawyer, was arrested in January 2024. He had previously been arrested in November 2018 for his affiliation with the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) in Rasht and had spent four years in prison. Pouya Ghobadi, 33, an electrical engineer, was arrested in March 2024. He had also been arrested twice before. In December 2024, they, along with Mohammad Taghavi, Akbar Daneshvarkar, Abolhassan Montazeri, and Vahid Bani-Amerian, were sentenced to death by the criminal judge Iman Afshari, head of Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, on charges of “membership in the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran” after months of interrogation and torture. Yesterday, Mohammad Taghavi and Akbar Daneshvarkar faced the gallows with courage.

The regime’s Judiciary announced today, “Babak Alipour and Pouya Ghobadi were armed elements of the PMOI and domestic enemy elements who participated in multiple terrorist operations in Tehran. In order to strike at the country’s security, using curved-trajectory firearms (launchers), they attacked sensitive centers and public places… After executing organizational arrangements and connecting with the operational agent, Babak Alipour fired 4 launchers at the building of one of the country’s institutions, of which only 2 functioned… Equipment for making T-joint explosive devices was discovered in the team house where Babak Alipour was present. He also, along with a number of others, including Mohammad Taghavi and Akbar Daneshvarkar, attacked the entrance of the Ministry of Intelligence building with a launcher. Pouya Ghobadi participated in multiple operations and carried out numerous actions against the country’s security.”

The regime’s Judiciary cited their charges as “rebellion (Baghi) through direct involvement in carrying out multiple terrorist actions, the use of projectile weapons-launchers, membership in the PMOI, and committing effective harassing actions in support of the PMOI with the aim of overthrowing the system” (Mizan, the news agency of the regime’s Judiciary, March 31, 2026).

On Monday, the PMOI announced, “On the evening of Sunday, March 29, simultaneously with the transfer of the heroic PMOI members Mohammad Taghavi and Akbar Daneshvarkar for execution, the anti-riot unit attacked the ward of political prisoners in Ward 4 of Ghezel Hesar and transferred them to solitary confinement. Four PMOI members under death sentences—Babak Alipour, Vahid Bani-Amerian, Abolhassan Montazer, and Pouya Ghobadi—are among the prisoners who were brutally attacked and beaten. There is no information on the condition of these four prisoners, and their lives are in danger more than ever. Since Monday morning, March 30, all communications between political prisoners in Ward 4 of this prison and their families have been cut off.”

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, stated that the brutal execution of these proud PMOI members demonstrates the fear and desperation of the mullahs’ regime in the face of the angry masses and their welcome and support for the Resistance Units and the Liberation Army.

She added that these criminal executions, amid a foreign war, are a clear confession by the ruling mullahs that the main enemy of the regime is the Iranian people and the Resistance. However, this unaccountable bloodshed will not go unanswered by the rebellious youths and freedom fighters, and it will forever roll up the disgraceful scroll of this anti-human regime.

Saluting these steadfast PMOI members, Mrs. Rajavi said, “Babak, Pouya, Mohammad, and Akbar are the proud teachers of truth and sacrifice in our time, and their names will remain in the history of Iran forever. They were chivalrous men who did not bow to any torture or pressure and stood firm on their pledge and covenant until the very end.”

Mrs. Rajavi called on the United Nations, its member states, and all human rights defenders to condemn this atrocious crime and take immediate action to save the imprisoned PMOI members and combatants on death row. She stated that the time has come to adopt practical and effective measures, such as closing the regime’s embassies and expelling its terrorist diplomats and mercenaries.
