New York (CNN) -- A cameraman who accompanied Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to New York for the U.N. General Assembly has applied for asylum in the United States, and "he's afraid to return to Iran," his attorney said Monday.

New York City-based lawyer Paul O'Dwyer, who said he is working with U.S. authorities on behalf of Hassan Golkanbhan, said his client is afraid of persecution because of his perceived political beliefs.

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance for the period of transition of sovereignty to Iranian people, welcomed and appreciated the decision by Secretary Hillary Clinton to delist the PMOI/NCRI and implement the ruling of the US court and declared:

“I understand that this decision was difficult and required political courage. This has been the correct decision, albeit long overdue, in order to remove a major obstacle in the path of the Iranian people's efforts for democracy. For more than a decade, mullahs made every effort to prevent removal of this designation. They do not conceal their anger and disappointment and are trying hysterically to counter Secretary Clinton’s decision with their lobby groups in the United States, the United Kingdom and Europe.

Civilians, including many children, are the main victims of indiscriminate Syrian army bombing and shelling of areas abandoned to opposition forces, Amnesty International said in a report on Wednesday.
The London-based international human rights group said its first-hand field investigations had revealed a pattern of relentless attacks by President Bashar al-Assad’s military on territory lost to rebels in the north of the country, according to Reuters.

The inhuman clerical regime hanged a prisoner  in public in Tehran on September 13.  Previously a 34 years- old prisoner  was hanged in public in Shahroud on September 12 . A group of 11 prisoners were hanged collectively in Tehran's Evin prison on September 8. The number of executions only for the period of September 8 to September 11 has  reached to 13.

Unprecedented intensification of internal and international crisis, particularly economic bankruptcy that has resulted in crippling inflation on Iranians, has intensified the Iranian regime's fear of growing public anger. The fragile clerical regime, particularly at a time when the dictator of Syria, its main regional ally is on the verge of collapse, has resorted to increased suppression and death penalty in order to prolong its life even for a short period.

As much of the world’s attention is focused on Iran’s nuclear program, the regime’s leaders have continued their reign of terror on Iranian dissidents.

Iran has achieved the dubious status of ranking only second to China for the number of people it has executed. Now it has issued a death sentence on Gholamreza Khosravi Savajani, a supporter of the principal opposition resistance group, the Peoples Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

Published reports in Iran on conditions inside prisons indicate that political prisoner Mohsen Daneshpoor Moghadam is in critical conditions due to the mullahs’ officials refusing him access to medical care, the Herana website reported.
Moghadam is a relative of a number of Ashraf residents. At the age of 68, this political prisoner has been jailed for three years and is suffering from chronic heart illness, arthritis and severe knee pain due to physical and psychological pressures imposed inside the mullahs’ prisons. However, the mullahs’ torturers have refused him access to medical care.
