The demand of the Iran protests that have erupted around the country is the overthrow of the entire regime, Shahin Gobadi of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), has told Britain’s Express.

Shahin Gobadi, who is also the official spokesperson for the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI), or Mujahedin-e-Khalq (MEK) told Express.co.uk: “Today’s claim by the mullahs’ regime to allocate the income from the increase in the price of petrol to the people is a desperate and deceptive move to confront the growing protests across the country.”

He said the Iran protests have moved beyond anger over the price of petrol and have taken aim at the regime as a whole.

Mr. Gobadi said: “The regime’s new plot will fail because the demand of the Iranian people as reflected in the current uprising is the overthrow of the entire regime.”

Mr. Gobadi said: “Khamenei and other leaders of the regime have publicly acknowledged that the MEK has been the main driving force for the uprising and have ordered the bloody suppression of the uprising.

“So far, at least 200 have been killed, 3000 wounded and thousands more arrested, yet the protests continue across the country,” he added.

Background on the Iran protests:

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), hailed the arisen people of Iran and urged the world community to condemn the regime’s crimes and recognize the right of the Iranian people to topple the religious, murderous fascism ruling Iran.

During the clashes, the office of Islamshahr’s Friday prayers leader Mohammad Nowrouzi was demolished, his staff escaped and his car was set on fire. The state-own Martyrs Foundation building and the IRGC-owned chain stores in the city were completely destroyed. Some 95 percent of the banks in Islamshahr and Chahar Dangeh have been torched. Only a few banks remain operational in the city.
