Iran’s Regime Intensifies Pressure on Political Prisoners: Bans Visits and Withholds Medical Care

17 political prisoners in Sheiban Prison, Ahvaz, banned from visits
Political prisoner Nejat Anwar Hamidi Karoun, a supporter of the PMOI (People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran), is suffering from severe heart disease in Sepidar Prison, Ahvaz, and according to specialists, she needs surgery. However, despite repeated requests from her family, prison guards have refused to transfer her to the hospital.

Nejat Anwar Hamidi, a 68-year-old teacher from Abadan with four children, has been in prison since 2018. She was sentenced to 15 years in prison by the criminal judge Akbar Mohammadi in Branch 4 of the Revolutionary Court of Ahvaz on charges of propaganda against the regime and membership in the PMOI.

In another development, following a brutal attack by prison guards on Ward 5 of Sheiban Prison, Ahvaz, 17 political prisoners have been banned from visits since Saturday, April 13th.

The Iranian Resistance calls for immediate action by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the UN Human Rights Council, and the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran and other human rights defenders for the release of sick prisoners like Nejat Anwar Hamidi and their transfer to hospital.
