Iran’s Regime Escalates Pressure on Five Political Prisoners with Death Threats

Five political prisoners in Hall 37 of Ghezel Hessar Prison face death threats and heavy sentences on charges of PMOI membership
Two political prisoners, Abolfazl Rahbar, a 23-year-old house painter, and his cousin Omid Rahbar, a 24-year-old laborer, who were arrested in January 2026, have been accused by the regime’s judiciary of “membership in the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).” The regime’s henchmen recently verbally notified them that Abolfazl has been sentenced to 20 years and Omid to 26 years in prison.
Vahid Azizi, 42, a resident of Jannatabad, Tehran, originally from Khomein, holds a PhD in civil and groundwater engineering. He was arrested on January 6, 2026, during the nationwide uprising, and has since been threatened with execution.
Mostafa Imani, 39, from Karaj, a writer, designer, and holder of a master’s degree in art, is another political prisoner threatened with execution by the prosecutor’s office. He was arrested on March 29, 2026, on charges of contact with and membership in the PMOI.
Farshid Dolatyari, a 41-year-old driver, is another prisoner held in limbo who has been detained and subjected to intense pressure since November 2025. On December 6, 2025, the Ministry of Intelligence (MOIS)-affiliated Mehr news agency, without mentioning Farshid’s name, published the photo below, accusing him of stockpiling weapons.
The Secretariat of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) had previously announced the transfer of Abolfazl Rahbar, Omid Rahbar, and Farshid Dolatyari from Fashafouyeh to Ghezel Hessar Prison in its statement dated April 23, 2026.
These five political prisoners in Hall 37 of Ghezel Hessar Prison are under increasing pressure on charges of membership in the PMOI, deprived of even the most basic amenities. The Iranian Resistance calls on the UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Iran to visit these prisoners and urges an immediate inspection by an international fact-finding mission.
