In a powerful address to an online conference held by the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) on March 5, 2026, General James Jones, former U.S. National Security Advisor, characterized the current situation in Iran as the “beginning of the end” for the ruling theocracy. Reflecting on nearly fifty years of systemic oppression, Gen. Jones highlighted the regime’s brutal response to the January 2026 uprising as a final, failed attempt to extinguish the human yearning for liberty.

He explicitly rejected the failed Western policy of appeasement, arguing that history has proven it impossible to moderate the “medieval rulers” in Tehran by marginalizing the organized resistance.

General Jones offered a full endorsement of Maryam Rajavi’s Ten-point plan, describing it as a “Jeffersonian document” that embodies universal principles such as free elections, gender equality, and the separation of religion and state. He called upon the international community and the United States government to recognize the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) as the legitimate interim authority during the coming transition to a democratic republic.

Emphasizing that the Iranian people reject both the current theocracy and the previous Pahlavi monarchy, Jones saluted the courage of the PMOI-led Resistance Units and predicted that the “day of victory” is rapidly approaching.

The full text of General Jones’ speech follows:

This conference could not be timelier because we are witnessing history in the making. The events unfolding in Iran today are not merely another chapter in the long saga of repression and resentment. They mark the beginning of the end of a tyrannical system that has held a great nation hostage for nearly half a century.

For nearly five decades, this regime has waged war against its own people. Hundreds of thousands of Iranians have paid the price. And the world again witnessed the regime’s barbarity during the January 2026 uprising, when thousands were slaughtered for daring to demand freedom. But tyranny, no matter how ruthless, cannot extinguish the human yearning for liberty.

The Iranian people have demonstrated extraordinary endurance, resilience, and courage. Their struggle is for the establishment of a democratic republic founded on the will of the people. And in this historic struggle, the role of the Iranian Resistance has been indispensable. Having known the National Council of Resistance of Iran and the MEK for 15 years, I must express my deep admiration for you, Madam Rajavi.

At the helm of this remarkable movement, you have provided steadfast leadership through some of the most difficult circumstances imaginable. And in this historic struggle, the role of the Iranian Resistance has been indispensable.

For decades, many in the West chose the path of appeasement. They believed that by marginalizing and sacrificing a 60-year-old resistance, the embodiment of the Iranian people’s century-long struggle, they could somehow moderate the behavior of the medieval rulers in Tehran, and history is now proving them to be wrong.

It is therefore significant that the NCRI has demonstrated both political acumen and foresight by presenting a clear roadmap for Iran’s future. The announcement of a provisional government based on Madam Rajavi’s Ten-point plan is a vision of the Iran that can and must emerge after the fall of the theocracy.

The Ten-point plan is, in essence, a Jeffersonian document. It embodies the universal principles of liberty, free elections, separation of religion and state, gender equality, and the abolition of the death penalty.

For this reason, the international community and my own government must recognize this provisional government as the legitimate interim authority of Iran. As the roadmap clearly stipulates, this government will guide the country through a transitional period until free elections are held for a national legislative and constituent assembly, which will draft the constitution of the democratic republic.

So, ladies and gentlemen, the Iranian people will not return to the dark years of the Pahlavi dynasty. The chants heard across Iran, quote, “No to the oppressor, whether the Shah or the Supreme Leader,” leave no room for ambiguity. The Iranian people reject all forms of dictatorship. Their future lies in a democratic republic chosen by the people themselves.

And finally, I salute the courageous Resistance Units inside Iran. Even in these perilous days and nights when bombs fall and the regime unleashes terror, they continue their struggle with remarkable determination and bravery. These brave young men and women are providing and proving that the fate of Iran will not be decided by foreign powers, nor by remnants of past dictatorships, but by the Iranian people themselves and their organized resistance.

Ladies and gentlemen, the day of victory is approaching. Let us stand firm with the NCRI and Madam Rajavi at this decisive moment in history. When the day comes that the Iranian people raise the flag of freedom over Tehran, history will remember the brave men and women gathered here in Ashraf 3 and in Iran, and that they helped light the path to that victory.

Thank you very much.
