NCRI logoAli Mansouri, a 61-year-old political prisoner, serving his 15th year in detention at Gohardacht prison in Karaj, suffered a heart attack on Thursday, September 2, 2021, and was sent to Rajai Hospital in Karaj. He had surgery to unclog three arteries. After the operation, he was taken to the Intensive Care Unit with his hands and feet tied to his bed. He is scheduled to be returned to prison before his recovery.

Ali Mansouri was arrested in September 2007 for sympathizing with the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI / MEK) and for participating in the commemoration of the 19th anniversary of the massacre of political prisoners in the summer of 1988. He was sentenced to 17 years in prison. He has been deprived of furlough during the past 15 years.

Zahra Safaei, 58, a political prisoner held in Qarchak Prison, was transferred to the Sattari Hospital in Qarchak last week due to heart problems. However, as her hands and feet were chained to the hospital bed, she refused to stay in the hospital and was sent back to prison without treatment. In 2019, she was sentenced to eight years in prison for “conspiracy” and “propaganda against the regime” and “insulting Khamenei.”

Torturing political prisoners by denying them access to medical care and medicine is a routine practice in the clerical regime’s prisons, and many political prisoners have been left to die in this manner.

The Iranian Resistance once again calls on the United Nations Secretary-General, the UN Human Rights Council and its High Commissioner as well as the UN rapporteurs and the competent human rights bodies to condemn the torture and ill-treatment of prisoners, and send an international commission of inquiry to visit the mullahs’ prisons and meet with prisoners, especially political prisoners.
