Geneva (ATS) March 9 – A number of political figures voiced support on Wednesday for 3,400 Iranian dissidents residing in Camp Ashraf, Iraq. The event was held in Geneva at the Place des Nations on the sidelines of a session at the Council of Human Rights.
A delegation of Swiss parliamentarians issued a declaration of support for the opponents asking the head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Micheline Calmy-Rey to intervene with the Iraqi government.
The authorities in Baghdad must “disband the committee responsible for the closure of Ashraf, place this issue under the authority of the Iraqi parliament and put an immediate end to the psychological torture of residents by Iranian agents through the use of 180 speakers “.
Complacency of Switzerland
In a video message, the president of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) Maryam Rajavi called for an end to oil purchases from the regime in Tehran regime as well as an international arrest warrant against Khamenei for committing crimes against humanity.
She accused the Swiss government of “appeasing the mullahs’ regime” and strengthening trade ties with Iran, even as serious violations of human rights are being committed there.
Camp Ashraf, northeast of Baghdad, has welcomed the families of Iranian dissidents against the Tehran regime since the fall of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. The NCRI regularly accuses the Iranian regime of putting pressure on Baghdad to close the camp and expel its residents.
