The Interparliamentary Committee for a Free Iran in Italy issued a statement on April 12 regarding a conference on the same day in the Italian Senate titled “The road map towards a Democratic Iran.” The conference was held in the Italian Parliament’s press conference room, chaired by MP Elisabetta Gardini. Several deputies and senators attended the conference and expressed support for the Iranian people’s struggle for a secular and democratic republic and the Ten Point Plan of Iranian opposition president-elect Mrs. Maryam Rajavi.

As the statement highlighted, the conference at the Italian Parliament on the road map toward a democratic Iran was a platform for various Italian parliamentarians to express their support for the Iranian people’s struggle for freedom and democracy and to call on the West to review its policy toward Iran and take concrete measures to isolate the regime and support the resistance.

The statement underlines how Mrs. Rajavi’s plan rejects any form of dictatorship, whether of the shah or of the religious.

Mrs. Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance, spoke online at the conference and said that the recent riots have exposed the instability and fragility of the Iranian regime to the world. She called on Italy and the European Union to designate the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) as a terrorist organization and to recognize the Iranian people’s struggle to overthrow the regime.

The Italian parliamentary delegation, led by Senator Giulio Terzi, had recently traveled to Ashraf, the home of thousands of members of the main Iranian opposition movement, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of the of Iran (MEK).

The statement also emphasized that Senator Terzi presented a declaration signed by the majority of Italian senators “in support of the Iranian people in their fight for a secular and democratic republic.” The participants of the conference also invited Italy and the European Union to designate the IRGC as a terrorist organization and recognize the struggle of the Iranian people to overthrow the regime. Several Italian lawmakers shared their experiences visiting Ashraf and meeting with Mrs. Rajavi and members of MEK, expressing solidarity with the Iranian Resistance and calling for concrete measures and diplomatic methods to pressure the Iranian regime. The conference called for a reversal of policy toward Iran and the isolation of the theocratic regime.

During the conference, Senator Terzi also shared his report on the visit of the Italian parliamentary delegation to Ashraf 3. He praised the determination of the Iranian people to win freedom and democracy and emphasized the need for the West to stand by their side and review their policy towards Iran
