U.S. State Department Says Extra Deployment in Saudi Is Against Attacks by Iran

It was announced that the US is deploying more troops to Saudi Arabia. It is said that the deployments reinforce efforts to defend Saudi against the Iranian regime.

“Today the Defense Department announced the deployment of additional U.S. forces to the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Secretary Pompeo and Secretary Esper have had many talks with the Saudis … The product of these bilateral talks is the announcement today that an additional 3000 forces will flow to Saudi Arabia.” U.S. State Department Spokesperson Brian Hook said in a news brief, adding that the deployment is to protect US interests against attacks by Iran.

“The troops that we are sending into Saudi and the enhanced assets our defensive. They are there to defend our interests and to help Saudi defend itself. We are not looking for conflict in the Middle East. We have had plenty of it.”

Hook reiterates the Trump administration’s stance: “This administration does not seek conflict with Iran. We have been equally clear to the regime that we will defend our citizens, forces, and interests including against attacks by Iran or its proxies. We stand with our partners and our allies to safeguard global commerce and regional stability.”

The US State Department spokesperson also reemphasized on US policy of maximum pressure and said: “The regime in Iran has a choice. It can act like a country or it can act like a cause. Iran must change its behavior and act like a normal nation or it will watch its economy crumble. While the Iranian leaders make that decision, we will stay focused on working with our partners to defend themselves from attacks.”

On September 30, 2019, representatives of the Iranian opposition coalition National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) held a press conference at the National Press Club of Washington, DC, revealing new details on the Iranian regime’s September 14th attack on Saudi Arabia’s Aramco oil installations. In the conference, Ms. Soona Samsami, U.S. Representative of the National Council of Resistance of Iran said:

“Based on intelligence obtained by the Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) from inside the Iranian regime, the decision for this attack was taken in the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), presided over by regime President Hassan Rouhani,” Samsami said in her opening remarks. “Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif is also a regular member of the SNSC and attends its sessions. A number of Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) commanders attended this meeting.

“The operation’s tactical headquarters led by IRGC brigadier general Mohammad Fallah deployed to the Omidiyeh base in southern Khuzestan province, southwest of Iran, a week before the attack. Missile experts were also transferred to this base prior to the attack. The theocracy in Iran has entered the final phase of its demise. The regime tries to prop itself up and prevent an uprising through suppression and sponsorship of terrorism against its opposition. The regime attempts to contain the anger of the society, blackmail the international community into inaction and retreat through warmongering.

“If the regime ceases these activities, it will implode. The regime has paid no price for these actions and silently occupied Iraq.

“Our intelligence shows that the regime’s calculus is that it won’t pay any heavy price until the 2020 U.S. presidential elections. This is the reasoning behind its attack against the U.S. drone, piracy and the attack against Saudi Arabia.

“Mrs. Maryam Rajavi said, ‘The attack on a neighboring country’s oil installations is a major step and a new phase in the warmongering policies of the religious fascism in Iran which demands firm action. The ultimate solution is to change this illegitimate regime by the Iranian people and their resistance, the PMOI/MEK.’”
