Protesters shot, injured and arrested

On Saturday morning, the people and youth of Ahvaz in Khuzestan Province closed the Ahvaz-Mahshahr highway to protest the lack of drinking water. State Security Force (SSF) in riot gear and firing tear gas attacked the protesters, trying to disperse them. Met with the protesters’ defiance, the SSF opened fire, injuring several including a boy and arrested several protesters.

Ghaizaniyeh district is located 45 km from Ahvaz. There are more than 80 villages and 300 oil wells in this region, but the people have been suffering from water shortages for years, and their repeated demands have not been heeded.

The IRGC Colonel Mohsen Dalvand, who was trying to downplay the protests and shootings at them, told the state official news agency IRNA, “A group of people protested against the lack of water. They closed the Ahvaz-Ramhormoz-Omidieh highway and disrupted the transit route… After the SSF arrived to reopen the road, a number of demonstrators attacked the security forces using rocks and sticks and injured two security officers in the head… The police used anti-riot plastic bullets, injuring two, and arrested them.”

The Iranian Resistance hails the brave compatriots in Ghaizaniyeh and calls on other young residences in Khuzestan to come to their aid. The religious terrorist dictatorship ruling Iran is the main cause of the current economic and social problems. As long as this regime is in power, poverty, unemployment, water shortages, and inflation will continue and intensify. The people of the rich Province of Khuzestan live in poverty and destitution, while a regime’s parliament deputy, Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh, admitted that $20-30 billion were spent in Syria.
