On Wednesday, December 21, the 97th day of the uprising, people and relatives of the martyrs laid flowers on the grave sites of the martyrs on the occasion of Yalda Night, the longest and darkest night of the year, in Tehran and other cities, despite the regime’s security measures and threats.

In Tehran, defiant young people gathered in the Shahrak Naft neighborhood and set up fires and chanted “Political prisoners must be released” and “We have no Yalda Night, we only have corpses instead.” Brave young people in the Salsabil neighborhood blocked the street by lighting fire and chanting “This year, is a year of sacrifice, Seyyed Ali (Khamenei) will be overthrown.”

The youth in Tehran hung nooses from Hemet Highway Bridge in protest against the execution of the prisoners. Female students in one of Kermanshah’s high schools went on the streets and chanted “Death to the dictator” and “Freedom, freedom, freedom.” School students in Ahvaz staged a demonstration and chanted “Death to the dictator.” Employees of Jiroft Leading Copper Company continued their strike for the second day running. A number of artists who had gathered for the fourth day outside Evin prison to seek the release of detained artists were threatened to be arrested.

On Wednesday evening, at the Vali-e Asr intersection in Tehran, young people demonstrated and chanted “Death to Khamenei,” “Death to the dictator” and “Basij and IRGC are the same as ISIS.” Brave women demonstrated on Enghelab Street chanting “Khamenei is a murderer; his rule is null and void.” A nightly demonstration was held in the Amaniyeh neighborhood and protesters chanted “Mullahs must get lost.” In the Saadat Abad neighborhood, young people blocked the street and chanted “Death to the dictator” and “This year, is a year of sacrifice, Seyyed Ali (Khamenei) will be overthrown.”

The state-run website Jamaran, December 21, copied a Tweet by Mohammad Mehdi Mir Bagheri, a member of the Council of Experts stating that if the regime “does not take the confrontation with the infidels outside its borders and does not fight with them within the cultural and ideological boundaries of the arrogant world, it cannot maintain itself.”
