In August 2023, by issuing a statement, the International Committee in Search of Justice (ISJ) urgently alerted European Union leaders and heads of state to a grave violation of international law. On July 29, 2023, the Iranian regime’s Judiciary issued 105 indictments against members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI), many of whom were European refugees or citizens. The Iranian regime boldly demanded legal representation within a month and threatened with repercussions.

ISJ statement warned that given the Iranian regime’s history of rights abuses and executions, it is now seeking to exploit the EU’s inaction to silence its main organized opposition outside Iran. The ISJ called on EU leaders to condemn these repressive measures, ensure the rights of PMOI members, and consider the indictment of Iranian regime officials for crimes against humanity.
