Iran: Coronavirus death toll exceeds 39,300 in 313 cities

The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI / MEK) announced on Tuesday, May 5, 2020, that the Coronavirus death toll has exceeded 39,300 in 313 cities across Iran. The number of victims in Qom is 3,255, Mazandaran 2,460, Khuzestan 1,990, Alborz 1,580, Sistan and Baluchestan 1,070, Lorestan 945, Semnan 910, Yazd 690, Kerman 435, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari 330, and Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad 255.

Yesterday, Alireza Zali, head of the National Coronavirus Combat Taskforce (NCCT) in Tehran, described the Coronavirus situation in Tehran as very fragile. He told the IRGC affiliated news agency, Fars, “The situation in Tehran, like other metropolitan areas is unstable and fragile and with any change in behavior and lack of health protocols, we can see a completely different and worrying condition.”

Today, Gholamreza Shariati, regime’s governor in Khuzestan told Fars: “The rate of the disease outbreak in Ahvaz is high, as is the Coronavirus infection in Ramshir (southwest Iran), and in Ahvaz, the death toll has increased for those under the age of 60.”

Doctors in Dezful say that by returning people to work, the number of those infected has risen sharply with 15 to 20 people dying of Coronavirus in some days.

Speaking to the official state news agency, IRNA, today, Hossein Farshidi, president of Hormozgan University of Medical Sciences expressed concern about the sudden increase in the number of people with Coronavirus infection in Bandar Abbas. “The crowds and unnecessary commutation of citizens can make it difficult to cut off the Coronavirus transmission chain,” he said.

Yesterday, Fars news agency reported, “The increasing trend of Coronavirus patients in Hormozgan province during the past ten days compelled Iraj Haririchi, Deputy Health Minister to visit Bandar Abbas.”

Navid Danaei, president of Semnan University of Medical Sciences told Fars news agency, “There is no white (virus-free) zone in the cities covered by Semnan University of Medical Sciences.”

While the rate of infections and fatalities is rising steadily in Khuzestan and Hormozgan provinces, the clerical regime has intensified repressive measures and arbitrary arrests in these provinces. Today, the official state-run news agency, Mehr, quoted the Hormozgan State Security Forces (SSF) as saying that the “identification and arrest of the perpetrator of the disturbing the public in cyberspace.” Today, IRNA, wrote that Khuzestan’s head of SSF had announced the arrest of eight people in the city of Shadegan.
