Ten Former Ministers Appeal to Save the Life of Death Row Political Prisoner in Iran

Ten former leaders and ministers from Western countries sent an urgent appeal to Mr. Volker Türk, the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights, to prevent the execution of Mohammad Javad Vafa’i Thani, a young political prisoner in Iran. Vafa’i Thani was sentenced by the Iranian regime’s Judiciary to death on the charge of “corruption on Earth” with allegations of political motivations.

The signatories called for international pressure on the clerical dictatorship to halt the execution and ensure the safety of thousands of political prisoners who have been apprehended following the months-long uprising in Iran. Notorious for multiple massacres and the lack of due process, the regime’s Judiciary holds the highest rate of executions per capita across the globe.
