NCRI logoHamedan residents took to the Bu-Ali Street on Thursday, August 25, for the third consecutive night to protest the lack of water in the city. For more than a week now, the city has been suffering from the lack of drinking water for 12 hours, sometimes for 24 hours, prompting the residents to spend long hours in queues to get water from tankers. Several people, especially children, have been poisoned and hospitalized because of drinking contaminated water.

Angry people chanted: “There won’t be a real country till all the mullahs are gone”, “Our officials are our shame,” “Incompetent official, shame on you,” “Don’t be afraid, we are all together,” “Iranians die, but they will not accept humiliation,” and “Mullahs’ must get lost.”

Instead of solving the water problem, the regime dispatched repressive forces to quell the protests. The Special Unit and repressive SSFC (State Security Force Command) attacked the people on Wednesday night and injured several protesters, including women. Protesters responded by chanting: “Shameless, Shameless!”

On Thursday night, protests against water shortage were extended to Kazerun (Khuzestan province), where the people of Benaf held a protest rally.

Citing Ali Akbar Mehrabian, the power minister, state TV reported on Wednesday, August 24, that the problem with supplying drinking water in areas such as Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, and Hamadan lies in “infrastructure and completing investments to provide sustainable drinking water in these areas.” He added, “In the city of Hamedan, a water transfer project was supposed to be conducted many years ago, maybe 17-18 years ago, in 2005, 2006, but the project advanced about 30%.”

The religious fascism ruling Iran has destroyed the infrastructures on the one hand and plunders the Iranian people’s assets or wastes them on anti-patriotic nuclear and missile projects, war-mongering, and exporting terrorism on the other. The recently exposed multibillion-dollar astronomical theft by government mafia bands in Isfahan’s Mobarakeh Steel Company is just an example.

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), saluted the arisen men and women in Hamedan and said that the water crisis is spreading in different areas of Iran from Hamedan to Borujerd, Kermanshah, Zanjan, Kazerun, Khuzestan, Sistan, and Baluchistan. Water and freedom are everybody’s rights, yet our people have been denied their rights by the ruling mullahs. Iranians across the country should direct their anger and rage toward the regime that massacres people and plunders the assets of the Iranian nation.
