Update on Lordegan Protests: Iran Regime Confirms MEK’s Leading Role

Written by Mohammad Sadat Khansari

According to the latest news from the Lordegan residents, the Iranian regime has stationed tanks at the entrance of the town, and its agents constantly patrol the area. The regime is frightened of a possible uprising, and officials have warned that the main Iranian opposition group People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI, Mujahedin-e Khalq or MEK) is behind the protests.

People in the Iranian city of Isfahan protested on Sunday in solidarity with the uprising by residents of Lordegan.

On October 6, the residents of Lordegan protested against the presence of the regime’s provincial governor and the head of the Health Department of Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari Province and attacked their vehicle.

The protests were triggered after news emerged that at least 300 people, including children, were infected with HIV in Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari by health authorities using contaminated syringes.

Residents of the village of Chenar Mahmoud in Lordegan have pointed to medical negligence across the local health care system as the cause of the outbreak. Locals say people contracted HIV from needles used by the village’s health organization to test for diabetes two months ago. The incident has also affected residents of neighboring villages.

On October 5, thousands of residents in Lordegan demonstrated against the mullahs’ regime in support of the residents of Chenar Mahmoudi village. Angry youths set ablaze the office of the representative of the regime’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and Lordegan Governor’s Office as well as several other regime’s centers.

The demonstration began outside the Governor’s Office and spread to the Health Department’s local office. The security forces attacked the protesters at both locations. The protesters defended themselves by throwing rocks. The suppressive forces fired live rounds and tear gas into the crowd to disperse them, wounding a number of demonstrators.

The protesters were chanting, “Down with dictator,” “have no fear, we are all together,” “neither Gaza nor Lebanon, I give my life for Iran,” and “incompetent official, resign, resign.”

In the city of Jolfa in East Azerbaijan Province, northwest Iran, employees of the local gas pipeline company held a gathering in solidarity with the residents of Lordegan. These workers held a large poster reading, “Chenar of Lordegan is not alone.”

As the protests escalate, officials of the Iranian regime have underlined the active presence and leading role of the MEK in the protests.

Ali-Mohammad Akbari, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) Qamar-Bani-Hashem legion in the province, confirmed on Saturday the role of the MEK. He once again showed the regime’s fear of the MEK and its influence on the people. Akbari said, “The Monafeqin (regime’s slander term for the MEK) were present in the recent riots. They covered their faces and were guiding people,” the state-run news agency Mehr reported on October 5.

Akbari’s words once again show the Iranian regime’s fear of the MEK and the MEK’s relentless efforts to topple this regime and bring freedom and democracy to Iran.

The defiant youths, supporters of the MEK, have an active role in guiding protests against the clerical regime, since the beginning of the nationwide uprising in early 2018. MEK supporters play a key role in breaking the atmosphere of fear in Iran via torching the regime’s symbols and hanging banners of the Iranian Resistance’s leaders across the country.

The Iranian regime is afraid of a possible uprising led by the MEK, therefore, it has resorted to more oppression than trying to actually solve the crisis in Lordegan.

In another oppressive measure, the Iranian regime imposed an internet blackout on the people of Lordegan in their desperate effort to prevent news of the protests from reaching the outside world. A number of people have also been arrested by the regime’s intelligence and security forces.

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), hailed the arisen people and youth in Lordegan.

“With their chants of death to the dictator and attacking the office of the representative of the Iranian regime’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, they targeted the clerical establishment as the main cause of all the atrocities perpetrated against the Iranian people,” Mrs. Rajavi said, adding, “This corrupt and criminal regime has squandered Iran’s national wealth by pursuing nuclear and missile projects and engaging in foreign warmongering, which has destroyed all aspects of life for the people of Iran, including health and well-being.”

Mrs. Rajavi urged all the youth, especially in Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari Province and the neighboring areas, to support the protesters and the victims of the inhumane policies of the mullahs’ regime.
