In letter to Jeffrey, Iraqi lawyer expresses support for Ashraf

NCRI – In a letter to the US ambassador to Iraq, James Jeffrey, an Iraqi lawyer has said that the Iranian regime’s meddling in Iraq violates international laws.

Sofian Abbas, the Secretary General of the Independent Jurists Association Defending Human Rights In Iraq, told the US ambassador, “For American forces, the continuous help the Iranian regime provides to terrorist groups has been proven over and over again.”

“Due to the regime’s meddling in the Iraqi judiciary and especially in Iraq’s Criminal Court, as well as in media outlets such as the Al-Iraqiya TV, several days ago, the court’s Nazem al-Aboudi claimed that Camp Ashraf residents have committed crimes.”

Camp Ashraf is home to the Iranian opposition in Iraq, People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

“We at the Iraqi Independent Jurists Association, which is comprised of 12,000 lawyers and jurists, raise our voices in unison with the European Parliament, the 5,000 French mayors and the US Congress Foreign Affairs Committee in calling for the protection of Ashraf residents.”

He called on the US ambassador in Iraq to “enact measures to confront such inhumane actions” by the Iranian regime in Iraq.
