Iran: People of Shahrekord Protest Water Theft, Chanting “Death to the Mafia, Beware of the Time We Will Be Forced To Pick Up Arms”

On Sunday, April 17, 2022, the residents of Shahrekord in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province (West)gathered to protest the theft of water quotas by the water mafia affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards. The protesters chanted, “Death to the Mafia, death to traitors, beware of the day when we will pick up arms.”

On the same day, social security retirees and pensioners in Ahvaz, Arak, Mashhad, Rasht, Ilam, Bojnurd, and Kermanshah took to the streets chanting, “Retirees, rise up against discrimination,” “Our tables are empty, while their (state officials) coffers are full,” “We are outraged with so much injustice,” “Enough of repression, our tables are empty.” They also humiliated Ebrahim Raisi, the regime’s president, chanting, “You, six grader, what happened to all your promises.”

At the same time, cargo truck drivers in Tehran and a group of workers from Ahvaz National Steel Group gathered in front of the Khuzestan Governor’s Office, protesting the high prices and their harsh living conditions.

On Saturday, April 16, pharmacists in Tehran, Kermanshah, Yazd, and Kerman protested their low salaries.
