EU deeply concerned by executions in Iran and imminent execution of Ms. Reyhaneh Jabbari

tatement by the European Union spokesperson on October 4, 2014, Brussels

“We are deeply concerned about reports on the imminent execution of Ms. Reyhaneh Jabbari, who was sentenced to death for the killing of a man.

According to her she acted in self-defense while he tried to sexually assault her. We urgently ask the Iranian authorities not to execute Reyhaneh Jabbari and grant a retrial as questions have arisen about the integrity of the trial.

We remain deeply concerned about the high number of executions that have taken place so far this year and call on the Iranian authorities to refrain from using the death penalty.”
