Editorial slams Ahmadinejad

In an editorial clearly targeting the faction of the regime’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, a newspaper deemed to reflect the views of the mullahs’ former president Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani has warned that Ahmadinejad’s actions have threatened the Iranian regime and if not stopped will bring the end of it.

The newspaper Jomhouri Eslami wrote on Monday, “Sadly, in the current situation of the country, the unofficial portion of the society has come across perilous diversions, which if continued will not result in anything but chaos, an iron rule and bullying.”

The editorial implicitly compared Ahmadinejad and his inner circle to the assassins of the first Shiite Imam Ali, saying “our society today” suffers from “obscene behaviour under the cloak of religion.”

“Left untouched, this extremist trend will sacrifice the entire Islamic Republic establishment in order to realize its own aspirations, destroying all the efforts that have been made for the benefit of this establishment,” it added.
