International community urged to stop executions, secure release of prisoners, prevent humanitarian catastrophe

On the advent of the holy month of Ramadan and as coronavirus has spread to prisons, the ruling religious fascism has embarked on a new wave of hangings nationwide. On Wednesday, April 22, it hanged at least 11 prisoners in Gohardasht, Kermanshah, Sanandaj and Dastgerd (Isfahan) prisons.

In Sanandaj, Loqman Ahmadpour, 30, from the town of Baneh, was hanged. The day before, the rebellious prisoner, Shayan Saeedpour, 17 when arrested, was transferred from Sanandaj prison to Saqqez, where he was hanged. Five other prisoners in Sanandaj are on death row.

This morning, seven prisoners were hanged en masse in Gohardasht prison. One victim had been incarcerated since the early 1990s. Simultaneously, two young inmates were hanged in Dastgerd (Isfahan), and one prisoner was hanged in Kermanshah.

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), underscored that the mullahs’ regime had brought Iran and Iranians nothing but suppression, executions, poverty, and corruption. She said, in order to intimate and terrorize the public and contain the situation amid the coronavirus disaster; the regime has resorted to executing the prisoners instead of releasing them.

The mullahs’ regime has achieved nothing but suppression and executions. To terrorize the public and keep their grab on power, the mullahs are executing prisoners rather than releasing them. #FreePoliticalPrisoners #Iran

Mrs. Rajavi again called on the international community, especially the United Nations Secretary-General, the High Commissioner of Human Rights and the Human Rights Council as well as relevant UN Human Rights Rapporteurs and other human rights organizations to intervene immediately to stop the executions, secure the release of prisoners, and prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in the regime’s prisons.
