International call for urgent action to save death row prisoners and force the regime to provide medical facilities to prisoners
The judiciary of the mullahs’ regime sentenced 23-year-old political prisoner Seyyed Malek Mousavi, who is imprisoned in Shayban Prison in Ahvaz, to death on charges of waging war and rebellion for attacking and burning the Shavur Basij center. He, who is from Karkheh County, was arrested in May 2021 and after several months of torture to extract forced confessions; Branch 2 of the Dezful Revolutionary Court sentenced him to death. Abbas Khasraji, who was arrested with him, was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Another political prisoner in the same prison, named Ayyub Ghaibipour, is in very serious health condition and his life is in danger. Ayyub was arrested in November 2022 in Ahvaz and sentenced to 15 years in prison. After months of severe pain and neglect by prison guards, he fainted from severe infection and pain on January 5, 2024, and underwent surgery. The criminal prison guards returned him to prison one week after surgery and without completing his convalescence, where his physical condition worsened due to lack of access to medical facilities and the indifference of prison guards.

In another crime, on January 16, Khasmorad Saeedi, a prisoner from Kouhdasht, Lorestan, who had been sentenced to death, died in Qezel Hesar prison due to a lack of medical care and a delay in transferring him to the hospital. Prison officials have announced that he died of a heart attack, but according to witnesses and his relatives, he would have survived if he had been transferred to the hospital sooner.

In another painful incident, on Wednesday, January 17, a prisoner named Amir Shahbazi, who had been sentenced to amputation of his fingers after seven years in prison for theft, committed suicide in the solitary confinement cell of Urmia Prison. Prison guards transferred him to solitary confinement on January 16. He had told the guards that he would commit suicide if he were transferred to solitary confinement.

In a situation where the mullahs’ regime, in fear of the intensification of the popular uprising, has resorted to repression, torture, and execution more than ever before, the Iranian Resistance once again calls for urgent international action to save the lives of death row prisoners and visit of an international fact-finding delegation from Iranian prisons and meet with prisoners and force the regime to provide medical facilities for prisoners. The case of the regime of torture and execution should be referred to the UN Security Council and its leaders, especially Ali Khamenei, Ebrahim Raisi, and Gholamhossein Eje’i, should be brought to justice for four decades of crimes against humanity and genocide.
