Amnesty issues urgent call for release of prisoners of conscience in Iran

The prominent rights group Amnesty International on Friday posted an urgent call for the release of four union activists in Iran.

It said Gholamreza Gholamhosseini and Reza Shahabi are “prisoners of conscience, held solely for their peaceful trade union activities, and should be released immediately and unconditionally.”

Two other members of the Bus Company union in Tehran, Mansour Ossanlu and Ebrahim Maddadi, respectively head and deputy head of the union, “are currently serving prison sentences; both are prisoners of conscience.”

“Amnesty International is calling for their immediate and unconditional release,” the statement said.
