On September 16, Mahsa Amini, a 22-years-old girl, died after three days of coma. She was arrested by Iran’s morality police and was beaten while in custody in Tehran, causing her to suffer from severe brain injury.

Mahsa’s detention and death caused a lot of stir in Iran’s society and even among regime factions. Protests erupted on Friday afternoon in Tehran, with people chanting slogans against the regime, such as “death to the dictator,” “I will kill who kills my sister,” and “Khamenei [the regime’s supreme leader] is a murderer.”

Mahsa’s name soon became a worldwide trend on social media, and hundreds of thousands of Iranians took to social media to express their hatred toward the regime. Mahsa’s plight became viral as it embodies the Iranian women’s deplorable situation under the ruling theocracy.

Reports from Iran indicate the regime has arrested several protesters and used force to disperse the crowd. According to local sources, business owners in Kurdistan province, where Mahsa lived, are going on strike.

Fearing increasing public outrage, the regime’s morality policy issued several edited CCTV footage, claiming that Mahsa had fainted. On September 16, Fars News Agency, an outlet linked to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), blatantly claimed “Mahsa had a heart attack and had a history of illnesses. She was rapidly transferred to hospital and revived twice, but she couldn’t make it.”

Since Mahsa’s tragic death, the regime officials and state media try to decrease social hatred, but their actions and statements only add fuel to the public flame of anger.

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), issued a statement regarding Mahsa’s tragic death.

“The clerical regime’s misogyny takes a toll on Iranian women and girls daily. The brutal beating of Mahsa Amini, a young Kurdish girl, by the so-call “moral police” was outrageous and appalling to every human being. The resistant and resilient women of Iran will stand up to the tyranny and oppression of the mullahs and the IRGC and defeat them. Iranian people and women will fight back with all their might,” Mrs. Rajavi emphasized.

Mrs. Rajavi also called for “public mourning after the brutal murder of Mahsa Amini,” adding that “The misogynistic Guidance Patrol must be disbanded, and Iran’s courageous women must embark on a nationwide protest against the mullahs’ evil & misogynous rule.”

In addition, the NCRI’s Women’s Committee issued a statement, strongly condemning “the murder of Mahsa Amini, 22, at the hands of the repressive forces of the misogynous clerical regime.”
