In a press release issued by the British Committee for Iran Freedom (BCfIF), the parliamentary group called on the UK government the proscribe the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization under the provisions of the Terrorism Act 2000 in the United Kingdom.

The BCfIF argued that proscribing the IRGC is crucial for international security, particularly given the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. They emphasized the IRGC’s role in providing support to terrorist groups, fomenting violence, and hindering the path to peace in the region.

The press release highlighted the detection of Iranian-inspired murder and kidnap plots on British soil by the Security Service and Metropolitan Police. It also commended the efforts of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and its President-elect, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, in exposing the actions of the IRGC and advocating for its proscription.

The BCfIF expressed firm conviction that the root of many problems in the region lies with the Iranian regime and that regime change by the Iranian people is the ultimate solution. They called upon the British Government to recognize the urgency of proscribing the IRGC as a terrorist organization, as it would represent a significant step toward peace, stability, and justice in the Middle East and beyond.

The BCfIF statement reads as follows:

Press Release: Proscription of the IRGC is long overdue
There is a significant body of support within the United Kingdom Parliament for proscribing the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organisation under the provisions of the Terrorism Act 2000. Such a step would be a clear signal of the United Kingdom’s unwavering determination to address an issue of the utmost importance for international security.
Given the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, it is now more urgent than ever to proscribe the IRGC. The region is in pressing need of stability, and the designation of the IRGC would be a critical step towards achieving that goal.

The role of the Iranian regime and the IRGC in providing weapons, financial support, and training to terrorist groups, as well as their involvement in fomenting violence and conflict in the region, is undeniable. Their actions have exacerbated conflicts and hindered the path to peace.

We strongly believe that the prescription of the IRGC is not only a global necessity but also in the interests of our own national security. It is imperative to protect our citizens from the threats posed by this organisation. The Security Service and Metropolitan Police, last year alone, detected 15 Iranian-inspired murder and kidnap plots on British soil.

We strongly commend Iran’s democratic opposition, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and its President-elect, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, for exposing the crimes committed by the IRGC against the Iranian people and highlighting its destructive role in the region, as well as advocating for its proscription for several years.

In addition to its international activities, the IRGC is also deeply engaged in the domestic suppression of the Iranian people, who, during the 2022 nationwide uprising, emphatically rejected all forms of dictatorship, whether the current theocracy or the Shah’s tyranny.

We firmly believe that the root of many of the problems in the region lies with the Iranian regime, and the ultimate solution to these issues is regime change by the Iranian people on their own terms and organised peaceful resistance.

We call upon our Government to recognise the urgency of proscribing the IRGC as a terrorist organisation. Such a decision would constitute a significant step towards peace, stability, and justice in the Middle East and beyond.

In a press release issued by the British Committee for Iran Freedom (BCfIF),

The Canadian Friends of a Free Iran (CFoFI) submitted a letter to Melanie Joly, the Minister of Global Affairs, and Bill Blair, the Minister of Public Safety, urging the Canadian government to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist entity.

In their letter, this parliamentary group highlighted the IRGC’s role as a military arm of the Iranian regime, its involvement in terrorism, including the downing of Flight PS752, and its support for terrorist groups worldwide.

The letter emphasized that designating the IRGC as a terrorist entity is essential for Canada’s national security and accountability regarding the Iranian regime’s actions. It also referenced a previous House of Commons motion in 2018 that called for this designation and called for immediate action on this matter.

In an open letter to the government of the Netherlands, the Dutch Group of Friends of a Free Iran (DGFOFI) called for the designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.

The group emphasized that the IRGC, as the main military branch of the Iranian regime, is a major source of regional instability and conflict. The letter urged the European Union to take concrete action, including placing the IRGC on the list of terrorist organizations and freezing its financial resources.

The DGFOFI highlighted the support for this measure within the Dutch parliament and expressed the belief that such a designation would promote human rights and contribute to long-term peace in the region.

In a letter sent to the German government, the German Solidarity Committee for a Free Iran (DSFI) raised concerns about the delay in designating the Islamic Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.

The group, established by former and current officials as well as members of the German Bundestag, highlighted that recent events in the Middle East have once again demonstrated the Iranian regime’s role as a threat, not only to the Iranian people but also to the wider region. The primary tool of oppression, terror, and warmongering employed by this regime is the Revolutionary Guard, which the DSFI argues must be combated urgently.

Furthermore, the DSFI called on the German federal government to support the EU’s efforts to designate the IRGC as a terrorist organization and also advocate for the recognition of the legitimate organized opposition in Iran, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI). They stressed that peace in the region can only be achieved by overthrowing the Iranian regime through NCRI’s legitimate resistance efforts.
